Fraternal Fixation [pairing-centric essay]

Title: Fraternal Fixation (Or, How a Pairing Becomes One and True)
Subject: Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Akai Kiri and Shiroi Kumo
Category: Analysis, some editorial/personal reflection
Summary: A discussion of the subtext hinting at my personal OTP in FF:U.
Warnings: The pairing analyzed is incestuous shonen-ai, so those who dislike that type of thing would do well to steer clear of it. There's also analysis of spoilerific content throughout the series, including the drama CD Before, After Spiral, and the content summarized in the After 2 dust jacket. Translations for second-season material can be found at ff_unlimited_.

They do say that seeing is believing, after all, but... what about feeling?Collapse )

Ah, reality, how you are destroyed...

Title: Everything I Need to Know, I Learned from RPGs.
Subject: Role-Playing Games
Category: humor
Summary: Ah, RPGs, how we love you. You teach us so many lessons about life. Some lessons, however, probably should be slept through...
Warnings: none that I can think of...

I'm not an angsty or emo bishounen. Therefore, I probably won't betray you.Collapse )

Calling all writers!

Okaaaay people, it's Katana here. Unfortunately, I don't have an article for you, but I do have an announcement that I would like to make.

The SOAP site is technically up for viewing. However...there are no articles! And while I've sent out an e-mail to SOAPers from the myOtaku account, I haven't received anything in return. =_= So...

If you would like to have any articles on the SOAP site, please send them to Katana! If there are old pieces, you can revise them. Try and spell-check, etc., 'cause I'm not going to do it. (Waaay too much work for a high schooler.) You don't have to send everything, just things you would like on the site.

Submit your articles to katana(at)randomthunk(dot)net, except replacing the words with the proper symbols. If you know my main address, then you can use that as well. (Hint, it's not the one here on LJ. =P) Please send the works as attachments.

For my fellow corrupted youth

Title: A Homage To Violent Video Games
Subject: Video Games
Category: Editorial
Summary: This is my way of playing Devil's Advocate; why video games are in fact not the cause of school violence, and why including graphic violence in video games can, in some cases, make a game that much better because of it.
Warnings: None.

...you can bring down two helicopters, steal a tank, kill countless people, then get out of jail just by paying a few thousand bucks.Collapse )

Stop complaining, just like I should

Ugh...I'm soooo tired right now...going around Randall Rd. and nagging people to sponser our band trip to New York City isn't fun. But we're the only band in Illinois to be in the Nation's Day parade! Whoo!

So, this pece is my last one posted on theOtaku. Rask! *insert flame background*

Anyways, let's get on with this.

Title: What's Your Problem?
Subject: General Anime
Category: Analysis/Editorial
Summary: People complain about edits when a show airs in a kid-oriented time slot. But can these edits be justified? Besides, just what are you looking for in this show, anyways?
Warnings: Lots of questions that one must ask themselves...However, there is a general bashing of people who cannot watch any form of an edited show.

If you've done any of these things, you need medical attention

:3 I've returned with two more articles for your viewing pleasure. The second one of these was my final article on the theO. Not much to say about these. As for when I'll start writing new articles, well I have a new, FMA (gasp) one in mind, but I need to know more info about a certain manga character first, and Arakawa certainly hasn't delved into him much at all, despite being a major player...

Anyway, here they are.

Title: You Know You've Watched Too Much Anime When...
Subject: Micellaneous Anime
Category: Humor
Summary: How do you know when you've watched too much of a certain anime series?
Warnings: ...If you don't like to laugh, then don't read. o_o

Title: You Know You've Watched Too Much Anime...Two!
Subject: See previous article.
Category: Humor
Summary: See previous article.
Warnings: ...Completely random?

Stars and afros. What a combination.

Since I requested to join SOAP shortly before the retiring of the articles section, I never found out if I earned membership or not. Well, either way, I have a pair of essays to offer. One is research, the other is an editorial.

Title: The "Stars" of Baten Kaitos
Subject: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
Category: Research
Summary: Apparently, the folks at Monolith Soft and Tri-Crescendo like astronomy. Why else would they name most of their game's locations after stars?
Warnings: If you don't like science, particularly astronomy, I don't reccomend reading this.

Stellar.Collapse )

Subject: The Battle for Bo-bobo
Category: Editorial
Summary: The anime Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is sparking a lot of controversy after being released in the United States. But does it deserve all the harsh criticism?
Warnings: Please note that this is an opinion and you don't have to agree with it.

Fist of the Nose-Hair not included.Collapse )
